Minced meat, rice and vegetables: Russian cabbage rolls are an entire main course wrapped into a cabbage leaf. You can prepare this easy dish in advance and even freeze it.

  • 1 kg of white cabbage
  • 700 g minced beef
  • 150 g of rice
  • Carrot
  • 4 tbsp tomato paste
  • Sour cream
  • Salt, pepper, spices to taste

Description

The Russian name of the cabbage rolls, Golubtsi, probably comes from the word pigeon. The cooked rolls look a bit like sitting pigeons when the cabbage leaf has turned completely soft. According to the law of gravity, cabbage rolls tend to spread out when the leaves have lost their firm grip.

Cabbage rolls are a favorite dish around the world. The filling of Russian cabbage rolls is made from minced meat and rice. This makes it fluffy and easy to digest. We take ground beef for our recipe. However, it is also possible to use pork. With minced chicken, the cabbage rolls are particularly low in calories. Vegetarians can replace meat with vegetables such as mushrooms or broccoli. It is possible to freeze cooked cabbage rolls as single pieces and then store them frozen in a container.

2. Roughly grate carrot.

3. Remove the core of the cabbage. Cook cabbage head over low flame for 20 minutes. Let it cool down and remove cabbage leaves carefully.

4. Season minced meat with salt and pepper.

5. Add carrots.

6. Add rice and spices.

7. Mix stuffing well, place on cabbage leaves and fold over.

8. Place cabbage rolls into a pot and cover them completely with water. As an option, add onion, leek and carrot.

9. Add tomato paste.

10. Cook over medium flame for 45 minutes.

11. Serve with a dollop of sour cream.
