Pea soup

Pea soup

Pea soup is a dish that lovers of hearty home cooking really appreciate. The intense taste of smoked bacon combines well with the aroma of dried peas.

Ingredients

  • 3 potatoes
  • 200 g peas
  • 2 carrots
  • 150 g smoked bacon
  • Salt and spices
  • Fresh green herbs

Description

For this pea soup you do not take fresh peas, but dried ones. They give the soup a warm, yellow color. Dried peas, like all legumes, are rich in nutrients. In addition to minerals, they provide plenty of protein and a lot of fiber. Thus they keep the digestion going. The high protein content enriches this soup so it can easily be served as a main course.

When cooking peas, it is important to constantly skim off the foam. So-called saponins are responsible for the bubbles forming on the surface of the soup. As the name suggests, these are soap-like substances. They protect the plants from natural enemies. However, the human body can hardly digest them.
